You know it's a good day when...

you go to the bank to make a withdrawal and you see your balance has miraculously risen by several thousand dollars. Especially when you know that means you will get to make some villagers very happy in the next few days, and not have to worry about finding work to do. In other words, the USAID food security money for both my garden and Tumani's demo site came in yesterday, and now we can get to work! Alhamdulilah.

  1. Hi Anna,

Just found your blog. I was in Sare Fode from '05-'07. Just wanted to say it's a real pleasure to read about what is going on there - and especially to see photos of Eli and Maimuna and the rest of the family.

Say hi to all of them for me - and Seidou in Sare Samba Chicka, Tumani and Jenaba in Sare Gagna. I'm glad you're working with those three.

  2. oh, geez, I JUST saw your comment today; so sorry I didn't respond! So you're the famous Alason? They're all curious about you and miss you, and if you ever want to call and talk to them, Woura's number is 779445223, and Djiby's is 776611630. Djiby's leaving to start at University of Dakar tomorrow! Woura got a job in Diassina, so he's closer to home now. Wopa and Demo both just had babies (not sure if Daouda had married Demo yet when you were there). Also, biggest news of all is we got COURANT in Sare Fode/Sare Bidji! Folks are starting to install wiring in their households now. It's only time before there'll be cold drinks at the S. Bidji boutique... What are you up to these days?
